A bit about the Note:

The $500 Confederate States of America (CSA) banknote, issued in February 1864, was primarily used to finance the Confederacy's war effort during the American Civil War. It served as a form of currency, representing a promise to pay the bearer "Two Years after the Ratification of a Treaty of Peace between the Confederate States and the United States". This promise was not backed by any tangible assets like gold or silver, and its value declined as the war progressed and the Confederacy's prospects for victory diminished

Promise of Payment:The $500 note, like other Confederate currency, was essentially a promissory note, with the CSA promising to redeem the bills for a specific amount of money (or its equivalent) after a peace treaty was signed.
