A black-glazed coffee pot with relief molded tendril sprigs and rosette flowers with highlights of gilding. Base is fully glazed with three paw feet. Great details on form: the high dome-shaped cover has a mushroom finial, the handle a wonderful kick at the terminal, and the spout modeled in the form of a serpent.
Generally referred to as Jackfield ware, but was called ‘Shining Black’ by the potters who made it (including Wedgwood and Whieldon).
The coffee pot measures approximately 9.5 inches tall (to finial), 8 inches long (spout to handle) with a 2.75 inch opening. One small
Chip to inner rim of lid, as seen in photos. Otherwise, no chips, cracks or obvious restoration. No makers mark.
Provenance: has a sticker on base for well-known BADA dealer, John Howard. I have included a photo from his website of a similar piece.
