Fabulous vintage Marian of Rylstone statue.
Made by the iconic Marwal company in the 1950's, the statue depicts a woman in period dress with a deer by her side. It has a creamy finish with gilt accents.
The statue measures a large 18.5" tall x 9" wide x 13" deep.
The statue is a seated figure of Marion of Rylstone, after the original by Felix Martin Miller in 1878. The seated maiden is caressing the neck of a deer, on a foxglove strewn base. Impressed into the back of the base is "Copyright Reserved Copeland, F M Miller Sel". Also included is the Marwal logo mark. The subject is taken from Wordsworth's poem "The White Doe of Rylstone". Set in the time of Queen Elizabeth, "Emily", the only surviving daughter of a family of Catholic rebels is comforted by the visits of a white doe that she has reared in happier times.
The statue is in lovely condition with some tiny nicks to the paint. It makes quite a statement piece
