This image is Picasso’s drawing of his studio in his home, Villa La Californie, originally Villa Fénelon, and located in Cannes, France. The home is in the quarter of La Californie, hence the name, and served as Picasso and Jacqueline Roque’s home from 1955 to 1961.
In this home Picasso painted many of his masterpieces, including
“La Californie. Interior with Red Armchair,” and “La Fenêtre De L'atelier À La Californie” as part of a series of 13 paintings depicting the interiors of his home and studio.
These paintings were based on the sketches found in the portfolio, “Carnet de la Californie” including this print.
