I got this years ago with some Civil War Springfield , Massachusetts veteran items and believe it is a postwar veteran's home-crafted 8th Army Corp Badge. The silver badge is made from an 1893 US silver dime and is nicely engraved with the 6 star outline of the 8th Corp and appears to be inscribed  "11 NY  Co B" although the inscription is worn. The reverse shows a nice view of the 1893 date dime with a small round attachment pin base.The coin corp badge is approx 6/8" diameter.
    The 8th Army Corp served in the Shenandoah Valley of West Virginia in 1862, including the First Battle of Winchester, and in 1864 took part in the defense of Washington during Jubal Early's Raid,  including the Battle of Monocacy, preventing Early from capturing Washington.  The Corp returned to the Valley and remained active in  West Virginia as part of the Army of the Shenandoah.
     The badge is approx 5/8" diameter with some wear to the face but still legible inscription.
