NASA 905 (registration N905NA) is a modified Boeing 747-100 that served as the first Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) for NASA. Originally built in 1970 for American Airlines, it was acquired by NASA in 1974 and extensively modified to transport Space Shuttle orbiters. Modifications included the addition of mounting struts on the fuselage, reinforcement of the airframe, and installation of vertical stabilizers on the tail to enhance stability during ferry flights. It ferried Space Shuttles, including Endeavour, across the U.S. After retiring in 2012, it completed Endeavour's farewell tour to Los Angeles, where the shuttle is now displayed at the California Science Center.
