Unframed lithograph of a Woodland scene – “Home of the Deer” by Currier & Ives.

The “Home of the Deer” showcases Currier & Ives idealistic portrayals of nature. The serenity found in the foreground, still water and resting deer is contrasted with the drama of rapids cascading down from the mountains and sharp cliffs. Standing alone a noble stag surveys his surroundings. This image is similar to an 1870 Currier & Ives print by the same name, but with variations in the composition. Another print, The Home of the Deer: Morning in the Adirondacks printed in 1862, employs a similar motif depicting a doe and two fawns in a tranquil landscape.

Measures approximately 17 inches x 7.75 inches unframed. Significant damage and acid burning to edges, as well as prior restoration of tears as visible from photos.
