Tokanabe ware is mold-pressed clay pottery made in Japan for the US market. It was distributed by Sears circa 1929-1930. This large 12” piece is in great shape with red and blue decorative elements on a black background and two small handles shaped like an animal. There is a hole on the bottom (was it once a lamp somehow?) and the only flaw is one small chip at the lip. This piece is a great size and adds texture and a touch of chinoiserie to a space.
