An Original Civil War Letter with ptd logo "Officer of the Provost Marshal General, Department of Virginia, dated April 17, 1865 to Lt Colonel D.M. Evans as "Asst Pro Mar" from Captain Abel Leavenworth, Asst Provost Marshal  noting that he is enclosing a package of blank paroles for citizens. 
     He adds that all applications for Paroles either by citizens "or soldier of the so called Confederacy"  will be referred to you".
    The Letter is signed "By command of Brig Genl Patrick", by Captain Abel Leavenworth, 9TH VT Volunteers as Assistant  Provost Marshal to Colonel David M Evans. The Library of Congress has a pencil sketch of Colonel David M Evans Giving the Oath in the Capital at Richmond, Virginia in 1865.
     Comes w service info. Colonel Evans,  20th New York Cavalry fought at the Battles of Five Forks and Appomattox Court House. Captain Leavenworth   1p 8 x 10" ptfd/ink . VG Condition. (Please note- the letter did not come with any parole forms).
