Here is a rare opportunity to own a wonderful blue on white, transfer printed plates in the Fisherman’s Hut pattern. The clear, crisp transfer depicts a fisherman with his creel, nets and oars standing by the doorway of his hut, his wife and child beside a basket of the day's catch, his dog romping, boats on the water, a village and church in the background bordered with a detailed, exuberant floral and fauna design that includes an urn to the left containing a curling grape vine.
The plate measures approximately 10 inches in diameter and sits .75 inches from the table. No discernible marks to base. No chips or obvious restoration observed. The reverse shows crazing typical for the age and one area that did not get glazed, as shown in photos.
The manufacturer of this pattern is unknown, although it is widely believed it was designed for the American market. Pictures of pieces decorated with this pattern can be found on page 98 of 'Romantic Staffordshire Ceramics' by Jeffery B. Snyder and page 138 of ‘Blue & White Printed Pottery, Vol 1’ by A.W. Couch & R.K. Henrywood.
