Prevent the heartbreak of house sparrows (HOSP) attacking your bluebird nest box with this elegantly designed and solidly built Sparrow Spooker. These work.

Elegantly designed with quality materials, it is easy to install, weather resistant and compatible with virtually any nest box.  Construction details:

🦜12" long 1-1/2" x 3/4" solid cedar vertical mast attaches to nestbox roof or back
🦜Stainless steel T-bracket comes attached to mast and mounts easily to nest box
🦜Two 9" detachable bamboo dowels extend forward over the top of the nest box
🦜Mast and rods are protected against rain and snow with flexible rubber caps
🦜 Six (6) red and silver reflective mylar ribbons come securely attached to two rods

If you have shopped around, you will appreciate that these are not an overly complicated mess of plastic parts that break down in the elements.  As with my other bluebird products, my principles are function, quality, durability, and your satisfaction.

EASY INSTALLATION
1. Screw the T-bracket to the back surface of the nest box.
2. Insert the rods into the pre-drilled holes just below the top cap of the vertical mast.
3. Unfurl the mylar streamers and trim them if necessary to just touch the roof.

The rods are securely held in place by friction so you can easily disassemble for storage at the end of the season.  You are welcome to add a drop of glue if you prefer that they be permanently joined.

TIMING IS EVERYTING
Bluebirds have one "super power" in their struggle with HOSP: Research suggests that bluebirds are less intimidated by movement, color, and reflection than are HOSP. This difference is magnified if you install your Sparrow Spooker once your bluebirds have laid their eggs. At that time, they are most committed to the nest box and (as most parents) to protecting their young.

Remove your Sparrow Spooker at the end of the nesting season. This is important to prevent HOSP from becoming to desensitized to it. Store it out of the elements until the next season, when it will again provide fresh deterrence to HOSP.

FREE EXTENSION / REINFORCEMENT BAR
Some customers prefer to raise their sparrow spooker a little higher above their nest box. Others are concerned that a predator may damage their sparrow spooker. If either is true for you and you have clearance behind your nest box, you will appreciate the optional free 12" long reinforcement bar.

Alternatively, if your nest box is mounted on a solid surface, you can reinforce your sparrow spooker by driving an additional screw through the mast and into your mounting surface.
