Senufo Hornbill Sculpture:

       - Description: This is a Senufo hornbill sculpture from West Africa, likely used in Poro society rituals.        - Origin: West Africa

       - Time Period: Mid-20th Century        - Price: Given its condition and the market for Senufo pieces, I estimate the value to be between $200.00 and $275 USD.        - History: Senufo art originates from the Senufo people of Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, and Burkina Faso. These sculptures often represent ancestral spirits and are used in Poro society rituals, which are central to Senufo culture. The bird, often a hornbill, symbolizes wisdom, fertility, and protection.

Senufo sculptures are known for their stylized forms and symbolic details, reflecting the spiritual beliefs and social structures of the Senufo people. The combination of wood, brass, and red pigment is typical of Senufo craftsmanship. These pieces are highly valued by collectors of African art for their cultural significance and aesthetic appeal.

Very Good condition.  These are passed down from generation to generation and was purchased in the early part of the 20th century but could be older.  Please see photos for condition and this was handmade as seen.  Beautiful statue and unique decor.
