What is the AC Condenser?
The AC Condenser is a heat exchanger that converts the refrigerant from a gas to a liquid state. As a part of the car A/C system, the condenser is installed on the front of the vehicle, usually next to or directly in front of the radiator.
The role of the AC condenser is to convert the refrigerant in the system from a gas to a very cold liquid, thus cooling the interior of the car. Condensers give you comfort when driving in hot weather, they also remove heat from the car and balance the temperature.
How to know if a AC condenser is bad?
-Burning Smell
When your condenser starts to fail, heat can’t escape from your air conditioning system. That heat can build up until the components are so hot that they begin to burn. Turn on your AC, and you’ll be able to smell it.
-Warm Air from Vents
Before things progress to burning, you may begin to feel warmth air in the vents. If you accidentally blow a stream of warm air every time you turn on the air conditioner, check the condenser promptly.
-Overheating While Idling
Under normal circumstances, when the vehicle starts again, the AC condenser will cool through the received airflow, but the bad condenser will accumulate heat in the process, so that sufficient cooling effect cannot be achieved
-Lack of Airflow
If you turn on the air conditioner and there is no airflow, it is likely that the AC condenser is damaged or the vent is blocked, and in most cases, the insufficient airflow will be accompanied by strange noises, you need to pay more attention.
What is the AC Compressor?
AC compressor is one of the core components to realize the necessary circulation of AC system. Its main role is to apply the necessary pressure (compression) to the refrigerant of the car to activate its heat transfer characteristics and change the temperature. This allows you to stay cool in the warmer months.
Four signs of AC compressor failure:
-Hot Air
The purpose of turning on a car's AC is to let cold air pass through the vents. However, if your AC system is not maintained, you may find that there is hot air in the car. Hot air is a sign of AC compressor failure, and may also be a sign of insufficient refrigerant. You'll notice that the air seems to be getting warmer over time.
-Fluid Leaks
AC compressors have internal bearings that prevent refrigerant from leaking out of the compressor. The compressor's job is to pressurize the refrigerant to help it cool. Due to the constant pressurized environment inside the compressor, this will wear out the bearings over time. Worn or damaged bearings can leak refrigerant.
-Strange Sound
When you turn on the AC in your car, you may hear some strange sounds, if you hear it, it may be a problem with the compressor. Once this part starts to fail, it may make a grinding or whining sound when it starts. These sounds are caused by damage to internal parts such as bearings. Turn off the AC to see if the sound stops, then turn it back on to see if the sound returns. If so, there's something wrong with the AC.
-Stuck Clutch
The AC compressor has a clutch, which is connected to the vehicle's engine to obtain power from the engine. The compressor uses power only when needed, but if the AC compressor clutch or its pulley is stuck, the compressor will not work because it will not gain any power. The clutch itself cannot be replaced. If it gets stuck, you have to replace the compressor.
