This rare 1923 German coin is known as the "Starvation" Token because it speaks to the suffering of the German people during the period of Hyperinflation. The high relief front shows a child reaching up to his despairing mother for a morsel of bread when there is none.
The reverse has the following description encircled by a wreath of thorns: "In April 1923 it cost: One Liter of Milk 490 Marks, 1 Pound of Butter 11,000."
It only got worse from there. By November, these things would cost millions of Marks.
Let's hope it never happens here.
Very scarce, especially in the offered condition! Both are flawless. NO OTHERS ON EBAY!!
