Small Mines of South Wales (Volume 2), by A.J. Booth
Published by the Industrial Railway Society in 1997, 112 pages. Hardback - c.18.5cm by 25cm (N6055)
From the rear side cover: The valleys of South Wales are famous for their coal. The well known deep mines are now all closed, with the exception of the privatised and re-opened Tower Colliery, but the industry limps on, Licenced private coal mines still operate in the Principality, now down to nineteen, compared to hundreds which operated in the heyday of the industry, In volume one (still available) the author described and illustrated 32 small mines, and this book now presents a further 34, together with an Appendix listing all known mines in the period from 1980 to 1997. These mines were full of character, as witness the book's 145 photographs, and 34 site plans
Condition of
the book is generally very good. The dust jacket has one or two very minor scuffs, and some light wear along the edges and corners, but the spine is intact and all pages
are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
