TCSII vs. iABS
What’s the Same & What’s Different?
5
Same
• Physical installation process on the line (eg.
cable routing and quantity of cables)
• Wheel speed sensors, no change
• ABS ECU still tank mountable
• ToolBox SW not required for End of Line
(EOL) on standard ECUs running 2-sensors
(eg. 400 500 101 0 TCSII 2S1M, or x103
TCSII 2M, & x420 iABS 2M standard)
Different
• Cables have different connecting ends (plug in
style)
• Valve port fittings are now NPT (TCSII was
NPT-F)
• No longer using multi-end GIO cable 449 442
010 0 for lift axle (eg., iABS has dedicated GIO
cables for each application per slide 9)
TCSII vs. iABS
Brake Timing?
6
Assumptions used
*be sure to add FMVSS121 element as is
relevant
• Mechanical Valve Design followed same
guidelines
• Production End of Line with same ABS
performance characteristics
• Brake timing affected by applications and
plumbing routing
• Valve performances will be equivalent
TCSII iABS
• Power line carrier communications (PLC)
• A method of multiplexing information and power on the same set of wires. Meets March 1, 2001 requirement for in-cab trailer
ABS indicator lamp
• Control Area Network (CAN)
• CAN is a robust vehicle bus standard designed to allow microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other's
applications without a host computer. It is a message-based protocol, designed originally for multiplex electrical wiring within
automobiles to save on copper, but can also be used in many other contexts.
• Diagnostic flexibility
• Toolbox Plus PC diagnostics, or Blink codes
• Intelligent Trailer Products (GIOs)
• Ability to monitor or control a given trailer function on the trailer (i.e. lift axle, tire inflation, tag axle, axle load monitoring,
telematics)
• Access to future trailer communication technologies (i.e. tire pressure monitoring, brake pad wear indicator, traction help,
return to ride height).
• Only Possible with Premium Variant ECUs (400 500 430 0 2M Valve or 400 500 350 0 1M Valve).
System configurations to meet any air-braked trailer application 2S/1M, 2S/2M, 4S/2M, 4S/3M
iABS Features
• Built on proven concept of current generation (TCS-II). Optimized, robust and integrated design.
• Smaller application space due to improved cable orientation and thinner cable diameters
• No need for external cable connection between ECU and valve
• Reduced cable connection complexity and improved flexibility leads to easier vehicle installation
• Range of 19 optional Intelligent Trailer functions helping to improve safety and efficiency
• Multi Voltage for diverse application conditions ranging from 8 to 32V
• Improved flexibility Tank and frame mounting possibility
• New ISO 26262 safety standards compliant
