For sale is a WW2 Basic Training Manual No1 In Air Raid Precautions Which is a 1st Edition Dated 1940. The first editions were larger than the following additions, please see hand compared to manual in final photo. At the bottom of the manual on the front it’s stamped Hove in purple ink.

The introduction states;

“The purpose of this Manual is to set out in practical form the basic principles of personal protection against air attack, and to cover for all A.R.P. workers the stage of training known as Individual Training, Stage I.

The manual should be studied by all Air Raid Precautions workers immediately after enrolment, and has been designed to qualify a newly-enrolled person to take his place as an active member of the local organisation in the shortest time compatible with sound teaching principles. Before he can be of service, he must not only understand the fundamental principles of personal protection against air attack, but must have sufficient general knowledge of the organ- ised system of Air Raid Precautions to be able to assist at his post or depot, or actually to serve in a team under a leader during or after an air raid. Until he has received this elementary training, he should be regarded as a supernumerary and should not normally be asked to take an active part during air raids except perhaps to assist a trained man or to undertake some work which does not require special training.

The instruction included in this Manual also provides a standard basis of theoretical knowledge to which further instruction and the lessons of practical experience may be added later.

It is hoped that the general public will also find the Manual useful as a brief account of the principles of protection against the various forms of air attack, and that they will attend such lectures and practical demonstrations as local authorities may arrange, in order that they may be enabled to play a useful part in helping to combat the effect of air raids. The active and instructed co-operation of the general public in this way will be a most valuable contribution to national security.
