This is a classic George III Sterling Silver Punch Ladle with a twisted bone handle. The oval bowl and shaft are in silver and there is a silver finial at the top of the twisted bone handle. It has a beautiful forked join to back of bowl and curved pour lip to one side. The ladle was made in London by silversmith Samuel Godbehere and dates to 1800.
The ladle measures approximately 13.5 inches long, of which 9 inches is the bone handle, with a 3.5 inch by 2.25 inch bowl. In total, the ladle weighs approximately 37 grams or 1.25 ounces. No monogram. Hallmarks are visible inside the bowl, but rubbed. In 1800 Godbehere was in partnership with Edward Wigan and James Bult and the makers mark may have originally included their initials as well, but is too rubbed to determine. The join to the bowl may have had prior restoration, as there appears to be contrasting silver color around this connection., but is not conclusive.
