~About the origin~

"Sendai Hariko", which has been loved by the common people of Sendai for a long time, is said to have been created by Matsukawa Toyonoshin, a samurai of the Date clan, from 1830 to 1844. The first Hongo Kyusaburo became Matsukawa's apprentice, and Hongo Daruma-ya continues to carry on the tradition. The technique and structure are unique, and the coloring and expression are particularly well-unified, making this a local work. Despite the rapid changes in the world, it has been preserved as it was in the past. The work gives a glimpse of life in the Tenpo era, and the gentle texture of the washi paper will give you a moment of peace. On September 3, 1985, Sendai Hariko was designated as a traditional craft of Miyagi Prefecture. We have created many of our works with all our hearts. ~About the Daruma~ The face is bordered with ultramarine and gold powder, and the body is decorated with colorful embossed treasure ships and gods of fortune. Truly a "Date Daruma" The large eyes watch over the safety of the household and health in all directions. The heavy, raised base represents perseverance and will guide you to the fulfillment of your prayers. ~Other~ As these are handmade, there may be some variation in the expression and size. Please keep away from direct sunlight, dryness, and strong impacts.
