Sakai Hōitsu, Edo period, Tokyo National Museum
Sakai Hoitsu (1761-1828) Born in Edo as the second son of the Sakai family, feudal lords of Himeji. He was an avid painter, poet, and poet. He studied many styles of painting, including Kano painting, sketch painting, ukiyo-e, the Tosa school, and the Maruyama school, but was deeply devoted to Ogata Korin and became the founder of the Edo Rinpa school. He left behind delicate, elegant, and lyrical works. His most famous works are the Important Cultural Property: "Important Cultural Property: Summer and Autumn Grasses Screen" and "Scroll of Flowers and Birds of the Four Seasons."
