Pair of unusual and charming Majolica Cornucopia Vases, English or Continental. Each vase formed as tapering conical vessel on rounded turtle-back molded hemispherical base, with multiple tendrils and seaweed to ankle; painted in shades of brown, blue and green.
Approximate dimensions are 6.75 inches high with 3.75 inch openings on a 3 inch base. One vase with repaired cracks and overpainting. The other with small chip to edge and repairs to cracked base visible to foot with repainting of exterior. Minor crazing on both.
Provenance: previously owned by Mr Vito Giallo. Mr. Giallo came to New York in 1949 as a young commercial artist where he served as Andy Warhol's first paid assistant in 1955. From there he opened a succession of Manhattan-based antique stores that catered to New York’s rich and famous.
