Art Deco Era J B Hirsch Pheasant Sculptures- 2 Red Painted Spelter Metal Birds
J. B. Hirsch's iconic Art Deco period (1920s-1930s) bookend sets.
You'll see this figure sometimes referred to as a rooster but it's actually a golden pheasant with a stylized crest and cape. It's made of spelter that was painted a deep cinnabar red. A non-magnetic metal, The pheasants are attached to a beautiful cream colored alabaster/marble stand. These gorgeous bookends have been restored. Almost all sets for sale you will find have at least one with a broken tip on the tail. I have fixed one of this pair with a metal compound and repainted them almost exactly the same color as the original. Almost undetectable repair!! THESE ARE AMAZING CONVERSATION PIECES!! Standing about 7" high, it is heavy for the size--almost 3 pounds.
