This item was tested on several size diameter lids. For standard lids that are flat surfaced the jar opener is fully automatic and works excellent. I have found that with the Ball and Mason wide mouth type of lids with bands you need to manually rotate the upper clamping mechanism to engage with the lid ring before engaging the auto opening feature. This is not due to any malfunction with the opener it is due to the design of the lids and rings on the jars. Unit works perfectly on all other standard jars.
