Victoria Cross. WHITE, Field Marshal Sir George.

A long Autograph Letter Signed ‘George S.White’, to Major Tudor Craig, discussing in detail a proposal to introduce two classes of pension for campaign veterans. 3 pp. 9 x 7 inches, in fine condition, mounted on an old album page, with Tudor Craig’s original letter (10 December) which led to White’s reply. Royal Hospital Chelsea, 12 December 1908.

Sir George Stuart White (1835-1912), Field Marshal, Victoria Cross (Afghan Campaign 1879-80). Commander in chief in India (1893-98). He defended Ladysmith in 1899-1900.
