This is an original press photo. Warsaw, Poland: Polish Communist leaders appeared today to have won their struggle for "independence" from the Soviet Union. A new politburo has been elected on their own terms and the Kremlin-picked Army Chief and Defense Minister, Marshal Konstantin Rokossovsky (shown) has been ousted as a member of the all-powerful body. Rokossovsky was dismissed despite the wishes of Soviet Communist Party Chief Nikita S. Khrushchev, who reportedly said he would use force if the Marshal were not retained. Photo measures 7 x 9.25inches. Photo is dated 10-22-1956.
