Solus is an independent Linux distribution designed specifically for desktop computers. It’s known for its custom Budgie desktop environment, which is tightly integrated with the GNOME stack and offers a sleek, modern user interface. Solus operates on a curated rolling release model, meaning it regularly updates without the need for a full system upgrade. It uses eopkg as its package manager, which is a fork of the PiSi package management system from Pardus Linux.

The operating system is available in multiple languages and supports a variety of desktop environments including Budgie, GNOME, MATE, and Plasma. Solus is aimed at providing a simple and elegant user experience, with a focus on efficiency and ease of use. It’s suitable for a range of users, from home to office environments, and is equipped with the LibreOffice suite for productivity tasks. For developers, it offers a wide array of tools and support for multiple programming languages and version control systems.

Solus stands out for its commitment to personal computing, ensuring that the system is optimized for performance and usability without the inclusion of enterprise or server-specific software.

One of the best alternatives to Mac OS and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
