The Sitmar Line had multiple ships named Fairsky, including the second ship of the same name, which was sold in 1977 after a collision. The first ship of the same name was built as the seaplane carrier Friesenland for Lufthansa. The Friesenland would send urgent mail off by aircraft, then lift it into the sea when it approached the American coast on its way to New York.
The Fairsky (2) sailed from Australia as a full-time cruise ship starting in 1974. In 1979, Sitmar bought the Portuguese ship Principe Perfeito and renamed it Fairsky (3), but the conversion was deemed uneconomic and the ship was sold in 1982 to John Latsis. The Fairsky was the last steam-powered passenger ship ever built, sailing for Sitmar from 1984–1988, and then transferring to Princess Cruises as the Sky Princess from 1988–2000.
