The $1 Military Payment Certificate (MPC) Series 641 was issued from 1965 to 1968. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) produced MPCs for the U.S. Department of Defense from 1946 to 1973 to pay U.S. military personnel in certain foreign countries. MPCs were created to prevent U.S. currency from inflating local currencies and making it harder to stabilize the local economies of occupied areas.
