You are looking at a ticket stub for the game between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox which took place on June 26, 1978 at Yankee Stadium.

The game itself resulted in a 4-1 Boston victory.  Carlton Fisk hit a home run, Jim Rice slugged his 23rd of the season, and Dennis Eckersley beat New York for the second time in '78 with seven solid innings.

More importantly, the baseball world chaptered another move in the Billy Martin-George Steinbrenner chess match. From AP:

"Billy Martin will remain as manager of the New York Yankees this year, owner George Steinbrenner said Monday night before the opener (which the Yanks lost, 4-1) of a crucial two-game series with the Boston Red Sox.

"This should end the speculation that has been developing of late concerning Billy's job," Steinbrenner said in a formal statement after meeting with the fiery manager for 2 hours Monday afternoon to discuss points of controversy.

"It's nice," Martin said. "The air is clear all over the country, so I won't have to answer these questions in every city. I can talk baseball, and not whether I have a job or not. It does take a lot out of you, but I guess it's part of the job."

Martin was asked if he had ever considered retiring during the weeks of turmoil that surrounded him and the Yankees.

"If it got to bother my health, I'd have to give it a thought," he said. He admitted he had some physical problems but would not elaborate. "It will come out in the very near future. So far, it's under control," he said, "and I'm not that knowledgeable about it, so I'd rather not comment."

Yankees slugger Reggie Jackson said he was "just kind of glad that it's all over, but it's none of my business. I don't work in the front office. I'm glad all the turmoil is over. I just got very tired of it."

After losing two of three games to the Red Sox in Boston, Steinbrenner and the club president, Al Rosen, had expressed dissatisfaction with both the performance and the attitude of the world champions.

"The manager is responsible for winning," Rosen said at the time. "He must always be ready for the ax if it falls."

Steinbrenner said at the time only two players on the roster - first baseman Chris Chambliss and third baseman Graig Nettles - were playing up to their potential.

That left the impression that all other players were falling below their capacity. Martin seemed to be given the blame for allowing this situation to exist.

However, Rosen, who Steinbrenner said would make the decision on whether the manager leaves or stays, said he felt that Martin should be given an opportunity to turn the team around.

"We can't get too far behind," Rosen said. "New York has a discriminating bunch of fans. They want winners. We feel obligated to give them a winning team."

The announcement also said that pitching coach Art Fowler would continue in that capacity and that superscout Clyde King would be dispatched to Tacoma, Wash., to spend time working with the Yankees' young pitchers, Jim Beattie in particular.

Earlier, it had been reported that Martin had been asked to demote Fowler from his job as pitching coach and let him be sent to Tacoma for the job which King now will undertake.

This brought a strong protest from Martin. Fowler joined the Yankees last August, having worked under Martin in Minnesota, Detroit, and Texas.

Steinbrenner described the long conference with his manager as "a solid, air-clearing session."

"Everything was discussed in considerable detail, and I think Al and Billy got a lot of things ironed out," the Yankees owner said. "In fairness to Billy, I think this commitment to him is warranted in view of his cooperative attitude at the meeting.""

Of course, Billy wasn't going to let George screw him out of his salary by firing him no matter what George said publicly and this meeting did little to calm the Bronx Zoo.  Almost halfway through the season, the Yankees trailed the Red Sox by 9 1/2 in the AL East.  Billy quit a month later citing his health and thereby locking his contract would have to be honored by George.  Hall of Famer Bob Lemon took over as skipper and the Yanks responded, catching the Red Sox and winning the World Championship.  Billy was back the following season when Lemon only had the Yankees a couple of games over .500 in mid-June.
