Here is an account of the game shamelessly stolen from an excellent writer at AP:
"Earl Monroe and Dean Meminger, a pair of New York reserves, ignited a rally early in the fourth period last night as the Knickerbockers handed the Los Angeles Lakers their first homecourt defeat in their last 18 games, 104-101.
The Knicks and Lakers were tied 70-70 late in the third period when Monroe came in for Walt Frazier. His 10-foot baseline jump shot started an 18-6 New York spurt during which all of the Knicks' points were scored by the two reserve guards.
At one point, New York scored 13 straight points and led 88-76 on Meminger's rebound shot with 10:15 left to play.
Their performance outshone the superb all-around play of New York center Jerry Lucas who connected on his first nine shots in the game and wound up with 26 points. He also grabbed 10 rebounds and had five assists.
Jerry West, most valuable player in Tuesday night's NBA All-Star game, was held scoreless in the second half until midway through the final period.
He then led a Laker fast break that closed a 12-point gap to just three with 4:55 to play."
Wilt had 28 and 19, while West authored a 21/6/8 line.
