Lemongrass is a tender perennial herb that is commonly grown as an annual in cooler climates. The fresh stalks and blades are used extensively in Asian cooking and certainly lend a characteristic flavor.

Lemon Grass grows in grass-like clumps to 1 meter tall and adapted to hot wet summers and dry warm winters.  Lemongrass is drought tolerant and will grow on a wide range of soils but prefers Nitrogen-rich, well-drained sandy soil. It dislikes wet feet. If it is damaged by frost in cooler areas, the tops should not be cut until all danger of frost has passed. This helps to protect the center of the plant from further cold damage.
