General Directorate of Geodesy and Cartography . It was established as the Higher Geodesic Administration (GUGK) on March 15, 1919. On May 10, 1967 it was transformed into the General Directorate of Geodesy and Cartography under the Council of Ministers of the USSR (GUGK under the Council of Ministers of the USSR). The Department was actively involved in compilation and publication of various cartographic works not only for the USSR, but also for many other countries of the world, on continents, oceans and geographic regions of the world, and along with Soviet publishers it was given the USSR Goskomizdat code - 071. On April 20, 1991 the Main Department of Geodesy and Cartography under the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR (Glavkartografia RSFSR) was established.
