Scarce Original Antique Map by Tobias Lotter, Augsburg,  c. 1760
Entire Continent of Asia plus adjacent regions

M-13986 “ASIA…”  M. Seutter, published in Augsburg, c. 1760  by  Tobias Conrad Lotter.  Engraved map with original hand-coloring.

Page Size: 8.5 x 11.25 inches  -  (Image: 7 5/8 x 9 7/8 ’’)

This is the scarce reduced edition derived from Seutter’s map of Asia. The map depicts the entire Asian continent with countries named and in contrasting colors.

The shape of Japan is particularly unusual – with the “Unknown Land of Yedso” attached to the island. Compagnie Land is located to the east and includes a note that it was discovered by Don Jean de Gama.

Nova Zembla, unlike most contemporary maps of Asia, is shown as a peninsula joined to the mainland of Asia. The Novae Phillippinae Insulae are placed a little too far to the south of the Caroline Islands. Topographical features are well shown and cities, towns, waterways, mountains, forests, deserts, and islands are identified.

A very attractive map, enhanced by two elaborate cartouches, with original hand color.

An original map, about 260 years old, not a reproduction. It is in very fine condition as shown in the photos. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
