USS Canberra, this 674 foot Baltimore Class heavy cruiser earned
seven Battle Stars for WW II service, and Cuban Missile Crisis
service. She also earned four battle stars in Vietnam service
and was decommissioned in 1970. A new USS Canberra LCS-30 is being constructed in Alabama.
Both ships are named for the HMS Canberra that was lost in action in WWII.
Canberra is the capitol of Australia, a nation with close ties to the United States.
