This 423 foot former destroyer tender was originally a converted cargo ship built in 1918 at Seattle.

She was deployed to Hawaii in July 1941, and was present, under repairs, during the Dec 1941 enemy air attack. She was only slightly damaged, and her crew assisted other ships in small craft. Later, the proud vessel served in the South Pacific and earned four WW II Battle Stars. She was decommissioned in 1946. See her web pages for the details of her design, construction and service history in the South Pacific.

Cover franked with a 55 cent flag stamp and a 3 cent USN stamp #935 from 1946.
