CSS Hunley Civil War Submarine memorial first day cover postmarked at Freedom, ME on April 10, 2023.

Cover prepared on an archive quality envelope without gum on the flap.

Cover franked with a 63 cent flag stamp # 5788 (FDOI) and a 3 cent UCV Veterans stamp # 998.

This CSS Hunley cover image was printed on cachet #2858 by Alvin Eckert, #9964, USCS. 

The eight-man hand-crank propelled CSS Hunley, was successful in sinking the blockade ship USS Housatonic on Feb 17, 1864. Unfortunately, she also sank after the attack and was recently raised and prepared for a museum exhibit. See the web pages for details of her construction, service and raising.
