The honey is gathered as a liquid and naturally crystalizes to a smooth, creamy white with a texture that’s easy to spread like butter. White kiawe honey is sold as a raw honey. When any variety of honey crystalizes, it becomes cloudy and lighter, or almost white in color.

White honeys generally have a milder flavour as compared to darker honeys. Flowers that produce white honey include:

  • Sage
  • Alfalfa
  • Fireweed
  • White clover

White honey doesn’t exactly look white. Instead it’s a very light amber or an almost clear “water-white” color.

Benefits

  • White honey has antioxidant which help to protect the body from cell damage due to free radicals. Free radicals contribute to the aging process. They may also add to risk for chronic conditions like cancer and heart disease.
  • Honey can be used as a cough suppressant. It’s also been used as a sore throat remedy. A study in the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine found that for treating a cough, honey is as effective as dextromethorphan, a common OTC cough medicine ingredient.
  • Honey has properties to heal skin wounds. Research based study shows that raw honey can kill harmful bacteria and fungus. It naturally contains hydrogen peroxide, an antiseptic.
  • Historically, honey has been used to treat digestive issues such as diarrhea and ulcers. Peptic ulcers occur in the stomach or digestive system. Taking 1 to 2 teaspoons of raw honey on an empty stomach is said to soothe pain and help with the healing process.
