Line in/out + capacitor Kit for the 1176 rev A, with different options
During its history, the Urei 1176 has passed through several revisions, that had some difference in the circuit. The greatest differences are found between the first version (blue stripe), the D version (class A output) and the F and later version (class AB output with and without the UTC O12 input transformer). But, if we open two 1176 of the same version, we’ll hardly found inside them the same components. I’ve seen different 1176 and, I’ve noted a thing, they ALL had european components, inside, mostly Wima, Philips Evox and Siemens.
This Kit is assembled to upgrade the UA 1176 rev A reissue, and it include almost all the components you need to build it, except:
The frontal Trimmer Bourns 2206 (R71), the 1uF and 220nF Sprague 225 Orange drop, the matched pair of 2N5457 (you can buy from Hairball), ad the PSU components. SInce teh 2N3707 are hard to find and must be selected for an HFE over 250, the transistors of the control amp are all 2N5088 (that works the same and doesn't affect the quality of the sound)
The original version of the rev A used only Carbon Comp resistors, but snce too much carbon composition tend to make the sound dull, you have them here only in the place where they can affect the sound in a musical way.
in this kit there are lots of Allen Bradley resistors, plus Piher and high quality metal film resistors (Beyschlag, Royal Ohm, Draloric, Roederstein), in many case you have 2 kind of reristors for the same place, so you can chose the sound you like. You can use all the AB resistors of the kit for a more vintage a darker sound, or the Piher and beyschlag for a more "open" sound
The PCB of the Haiball audio is designed for 9mm resistor components, but you can mount them vertical, as I've done in mine (see pics)
