We are pleased to offer a beautiful antique stoneware ovoid crock, finished in shiny dark brown Albany Slip glaze.

Pottery makers across upstate New York turned out millions of pieces of utilitarian stoneware in the 19th century.  It was not considered valuable and as such, was not preserved or well cared for.

Much of it was finished in a dark brown glaze called Albany Slip.  The glaze was high in mineral content which accounts for the variations in color - it can be almost black to lighter shades of brown.  The firing process caused color variations as well.  Many of the pieces show the fingerprints of the pottery who dipped the piece into the glaze before firing.

Condition:  Very good to excellent - no condition issues.

Size:  5" tall, 5 1/4" wide at opening, 3 1/2" at base.

Returns:  If you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason, please let us know right away.  We are happy to accept returns, however, we will not reimburse postage unless we agree that we inadvertently misrepresented the item.
