This book is the English translation of the well-known guidebook Walking Henro's Bible, written by the late Tateki Miyazaki (1935–2010).
Following World War II, during Japan's period of rapid economic growth, many sections of the traditional Henro trail fell into neglect. Mr. Miyazaki dedicated himself to restoring the historic pilgrimage route. Without financial support or commercial motivation, he cleared overgrown paths, installed countless red trail markers and signposts, and helped make the route accessible and safe for future pilgrims.
His remarkable dedication made it possible for today's pilgrims to confidently plan and walk the Shikoku Pilgrimage.
With Mr. Miyazaki's permission, this English translation was created to continue his legacy and introduce the pilgrimage to an international audience. The translator has also added valuable notes, updated information, practical advice, and original research to make this edition even more useful for modern pilgrims.
