Image phase detection AF function of the latest E-mount body*1 can be used with SSM/SAM lenses*3
When combined with an E-mount body*1 and an A-mount SSM lens/SAM lens, the camera body's image phase detection AF*3 can be used to realize the following AF functions.
■AF/AE tracking with SSM/SAM lenses*6 High-speed continuous shooting up to approx. 11 frames/second*7
In combination with α9, α9 II, α7R IV*4, or α6600*4, high-speed continuous shooting of up to approx. 11 fps*7 is possible with AF/AE tracking*6.
In addition to SSM/SAM lenses, image phase detection AF function*3 and AF/AE tracking*6 are also available with non-motorized lenses.
In combination with α7R IV*4 or α6600*4*5, in addition to motor-equipped lenses, all genuine lenses including non-motorized lenses such as Sonnar T*135mm F1.8 ZA and Planar T*85mm F1.4 ZA can be used.
In addition to motor-equipped lenses, all genuine A-mount lenses*2, including non-motorized lenses such as the Sonnar T*135mm F1.8 ZA and Planar T*85mm F1.4 ZA, are compatible with image phase detection AF*3 of the camera body to provide the following AF functions and high-speed continuous shooting.
■Newly developed AF drive unit and aperture drive unit condensed into a cylindrical shape, ideal for compact E-mount bodies
The newly developed compact AF drive unit and aperture drive unit are condensed into a simple cylindrical shape, making it easy to hold the lens on a compact E-mount body without any protrusion at the bottom of the mount.
Comfortable operability even when a full-size E-mount body is mounted with a vertical grip
Comfortable operability is realized even when a full-size E-mount body is mounted with a vertical grip.
*1 SSM/SAM lens models compatible with image phase detection AF are α7 II, α7R II, α6300, α6500, α7 III, α7R III, α7R IV, α6100, α6400, α6600, α9, α9 II, α7S III.
*2 STF lenses are manual focus only and not compatible with teleconverters.
*3 Auto focus does not work during movie recording.
*4 α7R IV requires software update to V1.20 (released on August 6, 2020) and α6600 requires software update to V1.10 (scheduled to be released in September 2020 or later).
*5 Except for α7R IV and α6600, the operation is equivalent to that of LA-EA3, and the update has not yet been determined.
*6 AE tracking is based on shutter speed or ISO value with the aperture value fixed at the first shot.
*7 The maximum continuous shooting speed is approximately 10 frames per second for α9 II, α9, and α7R IV, and approximately 11 frames per second for α6600. Continuous shooting speed may decrease depending on the lens used and shooting conditions.
