Posterior Night Splint for Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendinitis, Heel Pain - SMALL SIZE
Plantar Fasciitis Posterior Night Splint - Small
IMPORTANT: For Wide Or Swollen Feet We Recommend That You Purchase a Size Larger To Ensure Optimal Fit
MARS Wellness Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint is primarily intended for treating Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendonitis, and may be ideal for other conditions recommended by a physician. The purpose of this lightweight plantar fasciitis night brace is to keep the patient's ankle in a neutral position overnight, passively stretching the calf and plantar fascia during sleep. This gentle stretch helps reduce the muscle contracture, inflammation, and associated pain. The lightweight, low profile shell is sturdy and breathable and has three padded straps with buckles to ensure immobilization. In addition, the padding features a washable Lycra covering that is cool against the skin for maximum comfort.
Our uniquely designed night splint includes buckles on both sides of the splint eliminating the need to reach over and struggle to buckle the splint.
Recommended Best Practices
It will be best to start wearing the night splint for a short period of time, perhaps only 1 hour the first night, then extending it gradually each night and week.
Most splints are also adjustable, so you can alter the tension to suit. It may be that you need to start with it looser and make it tighter over time. The ideal target will be to wear it overnight or for around 4 to 5 hours at a time. This is the perfect time period for the plantar fascia tissue to extend and begin to heal!
IMPORTANT FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
If you find your foot or heel moving around in the splint, tighten each strap until the splint feels snug-this will help keep your foot in place.

Common Causes of Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is caused by straining the ligament that supports your arch. Repeated strain can cause tiny tears in the ligament which can lead to pain and swelling. This is more likely to happen if:
About Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. The plantar fascia is the flat band of tissue (ligament) that connects your heel bone to your toes. It supports the arch of your foot. If you strain your plantar fascia, it gets weak, swollen, and irritated (inflamed). Then your heel or the bottom of your foot hurts when you stand or walk.
Plantar fasciitis is common in middle-aged people. It also occurs in younger people who are on their feet a lot, like athletes or soldiers. It can happen in one foot or both feet.
So how can the splint help my plantar fasciitis?
When wearing the splint, the foot is held in a certain position, called “dorsiflexion“. This means that the fascia is stretched, not allowing it to contract and become tighter overnight.
The great thing about a night splint, is that the remedy is quite gentle and the fascia will be returned to it’s proper length over a period of time. Once stretched out, the plantar fascia will become less tense and therefore will cause less pain.
TRULY UNIVERSAL
Now designed with buckles on both sides of the splint, this allows you to wear it on either foot without having to worry about trying to find which side it opens and closes from.

No sooner than I took these out of the box they were on my feet.
I have a family member that has plantar fasciitis and is currently using braces at night and they say that they get lots of relief. They feel awesome on my feet no discomfort. Ready to wear to bed.

While this is quite bulky, making it hard to roll in bed, getting up in the morning and moving is more pleasant.

WOW! IT WORKS!

I have heel sports, plantar fasciitis and psoriatic arthritis throughout both feet but it is worst on my right foot. I also have Achilles tendonitis, worse on my right. My podiatrist was not helping me so I decided to help myself and buy this brace hoping it would help. I WAS BLOWN AWAY!
This brace is very light and has padding in the right places so that in this hot summer weather, I could even wear it without socks.
I wore this after a bad arthritis pain day with lots of foot and heel pain when I had done extra walking. I do wear orthotics but they don't do everything.
Walking in the brace feels weird if you have to get up to go to the bathroom, and my heels were sore. If there is anything I would improve upon it would be to add some extra cushion to the heel area.
All the straps including the one to increase tension on the foot are adjustable.
The velcro on the straps is VERY LONG so it can accommodate many people larger than me and I have big calves and ankles.
It was more comfortable than I thought it would be for bed. But just because it was a brace that made my foot still and at a right angle, it was a bit uncomfortable, and that would be just a fact of wearing a brace to bed. Because it was very light and secure I slept just fine, though by morning I was really wanting to take it off.
The great thing about the design is that the fasteners on the straps are VERY quick and easy to remove. Click-click-click and I am out of that brace! They are very secure but easy to remove when you want them to be.
I am SO SURPRISED! my right foot normally after I went to bed with all that pain would normally be super hard to even put weight on in the morning. NOT THIS TIME! I woke up and could walk right away, with almost no pain and NO STIFFNESS!
It even felt better than my "good" left leg and foot! WHAT?? After only ONE night? I think I need to buy another one for my left leg now. I am so grateful.

Plantar faciatitis and chronic pain sufferer
Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2016
Size: Small (Pack of 1)
I have plantar faciatitis, it developed because of i permentantly damaged my ankle, which in turn caused me to let my foot drift and not worry so much about how it positioned its self, it was so bad the podiatrist thought I tore it cause I am on strong narcotics for my ankle pain and should not have felt it as bad as I did. It wasn't torn just very painful. The cortisone shot made it worse for 2 weeks then pain free for 2 weeks and then to about a 5 on the pain index scale. I bought the supports for the shoes and while they helped with the day to day walking it didn't help once the shoes came off at home and I was still having pain while walking. I talked to my pt about using something like this. He said yes, it works for some people and not others it depends on the person. I also ordered slip on arch supports and a nubby ball and they help during the day to relieve the pain. I plan on taking the ball to school and using it when it gets really bad because it provides immediate relief for a while and reduces the pain. I recommend both to everyone with this.
Now the boot is awesome. I wake up in the morning and my plantar faciatitis doesn't hurt. As I progress through out the day it does start hurting but not as bad as before. There are only two problems. The first one is I don't sleep with my foot sitting up but on its side and my foot doesn't stay flush to the bottom of the boot unless the straps are really super tight to the point where it cuts off circulation. The other problem is more specific to me but I want to mention it for anyone with weak ankles or pain in their ankles, the position it puts you in can aggravates the pain so if you have pain when you are lying down and try holding your foot on its own at a 90 degree angle then you will probably get some pain with this, though it does disappeared after an hour or two.
You can walk in this boot though be careful and I have no trouble sleeping in it, though both are probably because when I first injured my ankle I was in the air case boot for a year and learned to sleep and walk in it, had no choice. Basically, walking for trips to the bathroom make sure your foot goes straight to the ground don't do heel to toe or toe to heel walking because you will fall. For the sleep issue, take it off when it bothers you although you should just loosen the straps a bit and see if you can go back to sleep. With the air cast I had no choice but to keep it on and the first couple weeks were rough but I found if I loosened the straps just a hair I could normally fall back asleep within 20 minutes.
I am back in physical therapy for my ankle but he is also helping me with my plantar faciatitis because some of the same muscles are used for both areas. If you can visit a pt and get some advice from them also.
Put the supports in your shoes, by the slip on supports for barefoot walking around your home or sandals. Get the nubby ball, the ball not the other ones that are flat, that doesn't work, but the ball provides relief.
These are all things I found useful.
*this item was purchased by me at full price, I did not recieve it for free or at a discounted rate, I promised no one my review. I am stating this because I don't always believe the people who get items for free or at a discount because they do recieve them for these reasons because of their promise to review and I feel this makes people, even unconsciously biased.*

Works!

This is the second night splint I have purchased, after having loaned the first to a friend who somehow always found an excuse not to give it back. I use it for a lower leg problem rather than a heel spur or plantar fasciitis, although I have the heel spur too. My ankle is swollen and stiff with fluid always, moreso with exercise; and my leg from ankle to below the knee hurts. Hurts so much that over the last 10 years I've given up jogging, hiking, walking, and biking to eventually get to where I spend a half day on my feet and then hit the couch. It was depressing and debilitating, and at 70 I was fast losing fitness. I had meniscus repair surgery and the knee guy really just blew off the leg thing and ignored the leg issue - said it was my knee and just wanted to do knee injections. Personal physician blew it off - said I was just getting old. The physical therapist agreed there was a problem but couldn't diagnose it.
I did some reading and decided to purchase another splint, on the theory that the muscles and connective tissue in my leg were somehow affecting lymph or blood flow to give me the swelling and pain. Perhaps a resting foot position (hanging and lax) would encourage the muscles etc to try to heal in a extended position, instead of in a shortened position giving a problem when standing or activities stretched them out. Who knows?
Anyhow I've been using this splint for about 10 days now with encouraging results so far. I try to wear it from 8pm-5:30am. The swelling is down some in the mornings. My ankle is more flexible all day long. There is less heel pain. I can walk better and longer. The deep muscle cyclic pain (like throbbing) is halted if I put on the splint. If I don't exercise I do not get pain when I sit down. I am truly optimistic that I will get pain relief and be able to exercise more and longer if I continue to use the splint. I also expect to shorten the daily wearing time as time goes on.
Before selecting this splint, I read reviews for every splint listing on Amazon, plus some web sites. This splint is very comfortable to wear while sitting around and is reasonable to wear in bed. I have a size small and it's long enough for my ladies 7 feet. The padding on foot surfaces is adequate to keep my feet from touching the plastic frame or extraneous material that might trigger a touch sensation and wake me. I use the removable toe wedge and it keeps a less-than 90 degree angle that's comfortable. The plastic frame is thick, all edges are rounded, and is that plastic that feels almost oily when you touch it, so it slides very well between the sheets. It is slightly flexible, leading me to expect that it will not break easily. It's not clear in the item description, but the diagonals from toe to top-of-support are strips of Velcro, which slide in a slot in the plastic frame and allow you to further tighten the angle as desired.
There are three straps to anchor your foot in the splint, each attaching by a good quality plastic clip so you can draw the Velcro strap comfortably snug. Each of these three Velcro straps have a firm padding section where it touches your foot or leg so that the strap does not feel binding. For me, who has larger legs, the calf strap is the right length but the ankle and foot straps are a bit long. If you let the hooks hang over the loops on the Velcro, they snag fabric, so I make a "pleat" in the middle of the attaching piece so that that the hooks and loops end at the same place. This will work forever and causes no problem.
The Velcro does no appear to be replaceable, so if you allow it to become clogged with blanket fuzz, it will eventually stop clinging well. You can manage this. Be very careful during your potty trips with your splint on: you can really hurt your knee. Keep your knee slightly bent and walk flat-footed.
The bottom has a thin glued-on rubbery sole for traction, otherwise you'd lose your footing on a carpet. The glue is already a bit loose at one edge, probably because of the highly desirable slipperiness of plastic. It may require reattachment.
You can get used to sleeping in the boot. In those morning moments when you're thrashing around before you arise, just take it off. A few minutes doesn't cancel the benefits.

I have plantar fasciitis in both feet, and when it gets bad in a foot, this really comes to the rescue. I can even sleep with the boot on. I'm a deep side sleeper and this doesn't interfere with my sleep that much. I just wish they'd sell foam replacements, as I have secret chewers, and foam is a favourite.
