Nautical themed “SHADOW BOX” ? (C102)
I’m not exactly sure what these things are called. I’ve seen my fair share over the years, but I am not a hard core collector or anything. This one is really cool in my opinion. It’s 16 inches by 12 inches by 8 inches deep.
The glass covers up a miniature fishing rod, lead weight sinker, harpoons, a fish, and a rolled up fishing net, among other things. All of this is positioned above a map of the Americas from about the year 1650, or so. You can clearly make out Florida, Cuba, Baja Mexico, and Panama, but the geographical land features are way out of scale. Didn’t they have satellites back then? JEEZ!
The language on the map appears to be Portuguese or Spanish. All the hinges open to reveal a nice little 8 inches deep storage space inside. The glass “LID” is held open in place by fabric straps.
The hinges seem really nice and tight. It’s not about to fall apart and implode. Nobody wants that. Ungood. The wood seems really nice, too. It might be redwood, quite pretty. Somebody really cared about this thing all these years. I have no idea how old it is. Could be from 1990. Could be from 1937. Who knows? I collect MAD magazines, and beer cans. Not this kind of stuff.
It came from a huge stash of beach/ocean/surfing/sailing/nautical-themed stuff literally in a 1940 house on the beach in Oxnard, California. The house was (still is) on Ocean and Simi streets if you wanna look it up on google earth. It has the woody station wagon painted on the garage door. What a cool house it is. Spent a lot of time there.
I can’t really speak with any authority on what the hell-heck this thing was used for. To hide jewelry? Booze? UFOs? Cash? Make-up? Me, I’d fill it up with hockey pucks. That’s a joke, people. Settle down.
Me, personally, I’d store my mid 1970s 45 RPM vinyl record collection. Ahhhhh, The 4 Seasons, Sweet, ABBA, Springsteen, Hamilton, Joe, Frank and Reynolds, the good old days. Not really, definitely old Playboy magazines. HA -HA!
C102 11/2022

Please keep in mind that all items came off 40 year old cars, mostly in junkyards. These have been cleaned and debugged, deleafed, deschmutzed and spiffied up, and in some cases look almost N.O.S., but they ARE NOT.
All of our stuff is nice, some VERY, VERY NICE, but it is still JUNK and will have some defects somewhere. If you are looking for N.O.S., Martys-GM-Junk is not the place for you.
Shipping will typically be FedEx.
