PS STUBS One Of A Kind Peter Stubs Engraving Tested Coin.
Peter Stubs (1756 - 1896) commenced as a file maker about 1777. By the end of the 18 Century PS Stubs were famous throughout England and Europe. He supplied files and horological tools, until by 1815 he was by far the dominant toolmaker in Lancashire. His family carried on the business through the 19 Century
I spoke to H G Skip Brack, the Curator of the Davistown Museum which solely is to display Peter Stubs tools, art etc. & he had this to say.
I believe you are correct, that he was testing his stamp on the coin.
We would be happy to accept it if you would like to donate it to the Davistown Museum. Or, we could sell it for you on consignment.
