Covenant was not so much a labor of love as it was a one-shot effort by multi-instrumentalist Dave GRYDER, ex-drummer of the death metal band Rotting Corpse. While the sole offering from this project is a highly-symphonic, keyboard intensive affair, Gryder, he has distinguished himself apart from this effort as a drummer and occasional keyboardist in various bands ranging from blues-based progressive rock to stoner rock to death metal to thrash, including STORM AT SUNRISE, BLOOD OF THE SUN, UNDERGROUND RAILROAD, and MAD JACK MCMAD. Gryder plays virtually all the instruments in the Covenant album, including Hammond organ, Prophet 5, Mellotron, ARP and Korg synths, and digital drums overdubbed with both digital and analog tracks. The music is all instrumental with a goth-metal feel at times, not surprising considering Gryder's musical background. Shortly after releasing the album he joined the sometimes-progressive hard rock band BLOOD OF THE SUN before moving as an original member of STORM AT SUNRISE. Guitar and bass were also provided by Bill Pohl (SOLID EARTH, UNDERGROUND RAILROAD). Gryder is also reportedly a serious collector of original vinyl heavy rock.
