Original Antique Map from Rand, McNally & Co.’s “Indexed Atlas of the World”, c. 1898
MAP OF THE UNITED STATES - POPULATION CHANGE FROM 1880-1890

M-14482: “MAP OF THE UNITED STATES SHOWING THE Increase and Decrease of Population, 1880-1890” New York & Chicago: from Rand, McNally & Co.’s “Indexed Atlas of the World”, c. 1898 (copyright dated 1892 in the lower margin, issued in the 1898 Atlas).

Large Color-printed map  (Paper size: 14.75 x 21 3/8” – Size from border edges: 12 ½ x 19 5/8”).

This unusual map depicts the United States in great detail. The chart, lower right, explains the change in population from 1880-1890 by color.  Topographical features are shown, states are named and delineated, and major cities, towns, Indian Reservations, waterways, mountains, and deserts are located.  The railway system is also shown across the country.

The note, at the bottom, explains how the total 10 year increase of 25.57 percent was calculated.  A very attractive and informative view displaying the population of the United States over 100 years ago!

This is an original more than 120 years old, not a reproduction, and is in nice condition as shown in the photos. There is some light staining in the outer margins, not extending into the borders of the map.

This map comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
