MEDIUM HMONG STORY CLOTH DEPICTING NEW YEARS CELEBRATION.

This is a phenomenal example of the extremely detailed fine art of Hmong Embroidery. This tradition of Story Cloth depicting major events of Story Telling through Embroidery allegedly originated 5000 years ago. This medium sized Embroidery Hmong Story Cloth features activities through thousands of tiny stitches that bring the Hmong New Year Celebration to life.

The embroidery scenes include Hmong Men and Women engaged in courtship activities and games while the Women are holding umbrellas. The Hmong Couples are seen playing a traditional game of tossing a ball back and forth to one another in a courtship ritual activity during the New Year Celebration. The activities are repeated at the center and seen throughout the Story Cloth. The background cloth is Blue Cotton / Polyester with multiple appliqued borders of Blue, White and Brown Cotton / Polyester. The outside dimensions of this Hmong Story Cloth are approximately 17 inches by 17 inches and the art sections measures 10 inches by 10 inches with a Blue, White and Brown Border. This rare Hmong Story Cloth is in excellent to near mint condition and was handcrafted by a Hmong Woman living in San Diego, CA during the late1980’s.
