This auction is for a large lot of 502 beautiful vintage new-old-stock loose round blue and green agate beads. These beads were part of the inventory of a Massachusetts jewelry maker. The lot was acquired by him in the early 1990s and was stock that was stored away and never used or sold. There are (212) blue agate beads: (49) 8mm beads, (67) 6mm beads, and (96) 4mm beads. There are (290) green agate beads: (49) 8mm beads, (65) 6mm beads, (80) 5mm beads, and (96) 4mm beads. The total side-by-side diameter is over 2.7 meters, or about 108” (9 feet). The combined weight of the beads is roughly 5 oz (142 grams).
As noted above, we are unfamiliar with these types of items. We therefore relied on what was written by the previous owner on the bags that held them, as well as the catalog that came with them. The catalog advertised agate beads and many other types of gemstones, some of which were purchased at the same time from the same estate that we have listed as well. The previous owner was an engineer who seemed knowledgable in the field of gemology, so we had no reason to doubt the accuracy of the labeling, especially since they were in line with the items in the catalog. We are unable to find the catalog or the original bags and believe we more than likely no longer have them. If however they do turn up, we will add the information and photos to the description.
