Practical Guide to Model Railroading (1952)

This vintage book is a fundamental reference book on the scale-model railroad hobby. It answers questions every model railroader asks, whether they are getting started or adding scenery. The first part of the book gives pointers on the hobby, along with chapters on cars, locomotives and painting.

It also features a practical discussion on way to operate model railroads, including a how-to-do-it on track construction, wiring and scenery. The data tables in the back are unique and valuable, including a chapter on track planning that includes a template to make any kind of track plan for any type of space.

This 60-page softcover book is a 1969 sixth printing of the book originally published in 1952 by Kalmbach Publishing Company. It’s in good condition, with clean pages and only light to mild wear on the covers, binding and page edges. A four-page interior center page spread has separated from the binding staples, and a few pages inside have sections underlined or checkmarked.
