This is 1 of a number of items that once belonged to Hannah Hauxwell 1926-2018 which I bought from a live auction and am currently selling. Please google Hannah Bayles Tallentire Hauxwell to see she was from Low Birk Hatt farm in Baldersdale as she took over the farm from her Uncle. This had been the home of her grand mother on her fathers side, Elizabeth Bayles 1862 - 1940 and the house was probably full of their old items ...as you will see later with the items I am selling relating to her grand mother. You will be amazed at her life at this rural farm and you will not believe some of the hardships folks went thru back then. Many books and Television programmes have been made about the life and times of Hannah.
Polite notice...you are only buying the knitting sheath - stick, the two books are just in there as reference.

This is a single carved Oak type looking wood which has a Goose wing style shape ...or if you look at it the other way its a narrow number 2 .... fairly flat but tapered slightly with the simply V shaped decoration which is carved. Slight bevel on the top flat edge to the front or top only.. the this shaft is not decorated on this one and no ferrule either.
The knitting needle hole is worn and it has been used.. a slight crack in the wood at this point.

This one has a great feel to it and patina as well from years of use.

It is 7 and 3/4 inch long x 2 and half inch widest part x 1/2 inch deep.

A very nice knitting sheath from this Famous Yorkshire lady Miss Hannah Hauxwell.

Items are shown next to an English 1 penny which is 20mm (11/16th of an inch) diameter for scale.
